Another Pet Peeve..

Okay so another Pet Peeve...this one really gets me and I see it more than often at school, but yet still at peoples' houses too. The thing is that I don't get why people like to leave stickers on their stuff after buying it? I see sooooo many people out there carrying binders with stickers on the spine of the binder saying blah blah, 2 1/2 inches width and crap like that. May be I'm nit picky or anal but that stuff bugs me soo much. It's as if someone goes out wearing a shirt they just bought, which still has the Size Medium stickers on it!

Same goes for other things. I've seen stickers on peoples' newly bought t.v.'s, VCRs, etc...And then...the worst is when people told me to keep the sticker on my laptop when I bought it..you know the thin clear sheet on the back of the screen cover..yah that one. I got rid of it fast..I bought the thing for myself..and wouldn't mind getting scratches on it..

Oh I could name so many other things I've seen with stickers. When I see them..the first I wanna do is rip the sticker off.....maybe people are lazy..or maybe I'm a bit obsessive :)

Gendered everything!!!

Just simply reading a newspaper makes you realize how when one wants to refer to a person in some article..the masculine (sp!) form is used. It's like this: Student A realizes that the cost of food at the cafeteria has increased, now this student must earn 56% more money from his work to account for his huge apetite.

Now..let me write that again using her: okay..and I'll also make the apetite small so it sounds more girly (no discrimination or anything...but I eat less than boys..that's all!).

Student A realizes that the cost of the food at the cafateria has decreased, now this student must earn 56% less money from her work to account for her small apetite.

Okay....mmm..the second one may not sound believable still, but I hope you all get my point. But but but...just sit there and read a newspaper or magazine and realize how many times they'll use HIS, HIM, HE..and never Her, She....why? Why why? We may claim we're moving forward..but there is still so much left to do!!!!!! It's odd though..I guess you really gotta sit down and realize all these him, his, he's..otherwise we just read over them..why? We were raised that way...society makes us that way...

Smoke law at Purdue..

Being a person who does not smoke (nor have I ever tried!!!!) and one who does get headaches from smelling smoke: Here are my views towards Purdue's little law they are proposing.

They claim that the smokers should have a designated area to smoke away from the buildings. To me that's going against someones' rights. Some people choose to smoke and some dont. And most who do smoke must do it in the bitter cold outside. But heck if they still figure that they wanna smoke then let it be. Why must Purdue put a ban on it? As far as I can tell...this ban includes people from even standing close to the buildings to smoke. What? They want a jail on campus or some sort of tree on campus which says "Smokers Please"..if that isn't segregation enough. It's like trying to section out people who drink, or those who eat Octopus for a living. I think it's a personal choice. I was talking to a few of my friends and they said that these smokers invade their right to fresh air...hello dammit how?? These smokers dont smoke in the buildings! And outside is outside. If you see a smoker close to a building, just hold your damn breath and walk away from them. It's as easy as that. Quit being so damn selfish and wanting it all. I know I can't stand smoke and I hold my breath, but that doesn't make me want to get rid of smokers.

My old university had a room called the "smoke room"...whatever. Even then people smoked outside the buildings..!! I hear they want to start some designated "detention center" or "jail" smokeroom or area here too for smokers. Why should we put a tag on smokers? Should we do the same for drinkers? Or octopus eaters? We all get one life to live, and we all make our OWN decisions to live it..so why should those who don't smoke have a right to control those who do? Smokers have to listen to the non-smokers and heck they stand outside to smoke. Can't we as nonsmokers just be a bit nicer and grant that wish to the smokers? This world is so selfish..it annoys me. You give and you take. It's about time nonsmokers gave...screw the taking.

ABC all over again!

I never knew about how much I didn't know till I started graduate school. I had figured that there was a ton to still know, but that I had some background on it all..but yikes! I feel like there is so much to learn..and I'm sitting at only the ABC's of biology. It seems that the last 6 years of college for my undergrad and masters only got me to learn the basic alphabets of biology..err microbiology. I find myself being bombarded with so much..and so much little time to read all and understand!

I often sit there and wonder how all those post-docs in all the labs I rotate through know so much! I mean..they can answer questions about anything..I wonder if I'll ever get there. I am willing to get there and will work my hardest to get there..but for some reason I just keep thinking they are such geniuses..and if I can ever be one like them. They are like the Gods of microbiology..if I do a no no on my experiments..here they are telling me to try this or try that to cover my mistake and get whatever it was back....they tell me to follow plan C because I tried B but screwed up on it. I wonder if I'll ever think like that and be able to do that..

I'll keep my hopes up..and if this blogs exists 6 years down the road..we'll see where I'm sitting at knowledge wise..

Idiot people..

Uggh! I'm sick of calling Customer Services for my cell phone or even credit card companies. I find myself calling once and talking to the customer service agent, and realize what an idiot the person is...as they don't really answer my question but only repeat ALL I say...idiots...I usually end up calling again, and waiting till some other idiot answers, and then this one can't answer my question either! So I've been making up stuff and figuring out my credit card information!

I had credit card fraud..some loser was using my checks or something. Anyways, I got a new acctn number and alll..so I was supposed to get credits from the fraud, and did...then there was another credit for a store in which I had returned something..I tell the customer service retard..and she's like..Please use your new card and disgard the Old one with the fraud activity. Okay dumb butt I'll do that...but where is the credit from the store.."please disgard the old card"..screw her! She pissed me off! I told her to check my acctn...and she's OH, yes the credit, umm..it's here but has not been processed?? what the hell..I returned the crap a whole month ago!!!!

Uggh...to make a long story short...same stuff with my cell phone bill..I spoke to the customer service agent for 45 minutes..again idiot, and couldn't figure it out..he was baffled himself....so..I think I will either just pay whatever it was, or keep fighting..depending on my mood and whether I'm active or lazy..

How weird is this?

Filling out a survey online...and it asks for ethnicity. So....I was looking through...finding mine. And each ethnicity is expanded..and has different geographic locations. Then you get to "White"....and no Norwegian, German, French, English, Irish, Hugarian, Austrian, Swiss you name it....nothing? how come? If in this world we claim it's becoming a bit fair each day...I don't think so. By putting Just White, we are sectioning people still out by color. Hello White is a color..the rest are ethnicities! Same with Black...I say black, I don't think ethnicity. It's a damn color again. Ethnicity means the country you come from...not a frikkin color. Gimme a break!

American Indian or Alaska Native

Asian/Asian American--Asian Indian, Chinese, Filipina(o), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese , Other

Black/African American

Hispanic or Latina/o --Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, White Hispanic, Other Hispanic

Pacific Islander--Native Hawaiian, Guamanian or Chamorro, Samoan, Other Pacific Islander

Pet Peeve..

I'm not sure if I've written about this on here before. I'm sure I have....what if I am repeating myself over and over by the years. I think by now I should at least get a search engine just for my blog, it's big enough! That way I can search in it about whether I've written the same stuff before.

Okay so the pet peeve. It's one of many. But I cant' stand people who cannot spell correctly! It drives me up the wall. The worst is people who don't know the difference between "to" and "too"..or "there" and "their"..or "then" and "than"..come on, if you're in college or even old enough..please figure it out.

And for those of you trying to refute me and say hahahaha, you can't spell either..your blog has so many mistakes. Let me make one thing clear: I write my blogs late at night. Yes the time is 1:57 a.m. and I'm tired. That's no excuse for spelling incorrectly I know. I do reread what I write..but yet I seriously think this blogging window screws up the spelling. Okay no..it's me, but maybe it's because I'm tired..and I miss out on the spelling errors. Hopefully not too many ;)

Superbowl!

Hahah..my bad. I am not so much of a football watcher..and I have good reason to not be one. Yah the biggest reason being I never watch t.v.! Anyways, was in the rec. room yesterday at my apt..and someone walked in asking if they could turn on the t.v. in the room..I figured why not..I'm not gonna watch t.v. and was too busy talking to my roommate anyways. This person turned on the t.v. and there was football on...took me a while before they said on t.v. something about Superbowl. Hahaha..call me disconnected...but hell even if I did know the Superbowl was on, I still wouldn't watch it. Watching men stick their head up anothers' butt isn't that pleasing. If anything, or any sport..I'd much rather watch Basketball..mmmm if only the Bulls were as great as ever, and M. Jordan was still playing for them, with the rest of his gang...

Can it really be that hard???

Discussing this with my roommate tonight. We were talking about whether there is anything in the world which is too hard to really comprehend..It got me thinking really. When I used to TA, I remember hearing kids go, Oh that's so hard...always would make me think in my head, "yah if you put the time to it, it wouldn't be that bad". Which is completely true. I guess my roommate is an engineer and it may take her less time to figure things out in engineering than would it for me..but but but..that doesn't mean that I think it's hard! I mean it may take me some more time than her, but I will learn it, and will learn it to a point that I can do extremely well on it.. Heck I think the reason people consider things to be hard, is because honestly it has to do with patience. Most people lack it, and don't wanna put that much energy into figuring something out. But I know of that great feeling you get when you figure something out and do so well, that you sit there and marvel at yourself...thinking "Wow, did I really do that or what?"!! Ahh, the best feeling :)

Buffet eating..

I went out with a few friends to dinner today..to a place called "Khana Kazana" or something of the sort. I'm sure I got the spelling wrong..maybe right who knows. Anyways, they wanted to eat from the Buffet, I figured why not as well. So...I ate a bit here and there, didn't really like any of the food there..it was pretty much too bland for my spicy preference. BUT, it got me thinking. I'm sure it's a DUH to everyone, but I figured I'd write it anyways. So ya, these restaurants or whatever make this buffet stuff, and overprice it big time, yah I paid $9.01 for it...and heck they KNOW no one can eat soo much...And in the long run they are making probably a dollar or two extra off of the person/eater as compared to them ordering just a normal dish...ayeee, dumb me. I learned my lesson...or did I? I just didn't wanna wait, acck and figured I'd get a bigger selection with the buffet, or at least a good one..got neither. Note to self--dont eat buffet again. Will I listen to myself? Probably not.

Must One Drive and Talk??

I notice it everyday on my walk back home..or even when I'm in my car driving. Yah soooo I figured it's about time I wrote about it. What is it that our lives have become so preoccupied that we can't even walk without talking to someone on a cell phone? Is it because we are all freakos who can't stand just silently walking or what? Anyways, that's not totally the point of this post. This post pertains to why people must get into ackward positions so that they can drive and talk? Err..or try to drive with one hand..or even one finger while on the phone? why?? I have heard enough stories of accidents due to driving and talking on the phone..Some people are good multitaskers, hell I praise them for it..and wish I could be just so good as them.. But daaamn, when there are OTHER lives out there, and not just your OWN, I think people need to think sense and put the damn phone down. If they can't put the phone down, and are good at multitasking, then they should buy a handsfree set...

On my drive to my friend's house today. She called. I let the phone ring. Honestly, I"m not compfortable enough picking up the phone when I drive..but it's also because I don't want to make some stupid stupid stupid stupid mistake, causing someone's life...If that happened..I donno how I"d ever move on.. :( And I hope to God that it never ever happens!

I just remember quite a few years ago...there weren't cell phones, and everyone did fine...so why now? Why the need to be on the phone 24/7 ??? I even hate it when my friends call me when driving..I usually end the conversation fast...cause it might be that I'm safe sitting at home talking to them..but yet they aren't safe..and hell, they are endangering other peoples' lives too...

Mmmm.....again, if there are some good multitaskers out there...Go for it talk on the phone..but damn do one thing for sure..and get a handsfree thingy.. I know I'll never invest in one solely for my driving... And I'm not a bad driver either!!!!! :)
